Impact-absorbing, flexible and movable.
After intensive research work and testing, BMW Motorrad, the world's leading motorcycling manufacturer when it comes to innovative safety systems, brought the Neck Brace System onto the market for the beginning of the 2007 motorcycling season. The sensitive throat and neck area was a largely unprotected safety gap. Statistically speaking, accident-related injuries in this area of the body may not be as commonplace as injuries to other parts of the body. Nevertheless, they pose a disproportionately high risk for motorcyclists. The consequences of these types of injuries are often severe. To close this safety gap, BMW Motorrad provides the scientifically sound Neck Brace System. The main goal is to reduce the most common falling injures in the spinal area. These are caused by the head being overstretched forwards (in over 60% of spinal injuries), backwards and by downward pressure on the neck due to an impact on the helmet.
The basic principle of the BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System is simple – to hold the head upon impact and in so doing prevent it from being put at a dangerous, extreme angle. The special design of the BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System achieves this in four ways: with shock-absorbing material on the surface and body supporting surfaces, high flexibility of the individual components, controlled pushing together of a system of moving parts whose surface has a frictional resistance, and which thus dissipates energy in controlled ruptures during extreme impacts on the energy absorption of the system.
The high effectiveness of the system is owed to the fact that the force patterns typical of accidents causing injuries are conducted directly from the head to the upper body. The individual segments of the cervical spine are hereby unburdened.
Thanks to the use of high-quality and lightweight materials such as carbon and Kevlar, the Neck Brace System is light, making it comfortable to wear. The freedom of movement of the head is slightly restricted at all sides, in order to prevent dangerous overstretching. Nevertheless, all the necessary movement axes and viewing angles required for the motorcycling experience remain unimpeded. The rider swiftly acclimatises to it and is not disturbed by it when riding. Even on longer tours and at high speeds or during harsh, movement-intensive off-road riding, the BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System can hardly be felt and rests light as a feather on the shoulders.
The BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System can be worn over or under conventional motorcycling jackets. It is made up of a front and back part connected by two buckles. These robust yet easy-to-use buckles mean the system can be quickly opened or closed from right to left or vice versa. The buckle mechanism also makes it easy to use with one hand.

The system was originally developed for racing sport! Consequently, all pros in rally and enduro sport use this neck system. But the Neck Brace System is not only for off-road sport; it is also the right choice for street sports. There is generally no limitation to the target group. The BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System provides a great benefit in terms of safety for every safety-conscious motorcyclist, from the pros right down to beginners, in all areas of motorcycling as well as outside the sporting sector, for instance touring riders.
The BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System is available in two main sizes: one for children and adolescents aged between 5 – 16 or for small people, and one for adults. It can be adapted to suit the rider without the need for any significant modifications, and is supplied with spacers in three different lengths. Enabling the collar to be either extended or shortened as required.
The BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System can be combined with all BMW motorcycling helmets and all common competitor models. Integral helmets are recommended for the use of the BMW Motorrad Neck Brace system. The system has also proven to be effective with jet helmets. The system can easily be worn with the BMW Motorrad back protector and with many other conventional competitor back protectors. Worn simply over the jacket, the BMW Motorrad Neck Brace System can be used with any BMW Motorrad jacket or with the BMW Motorrad protector shirt.
The BMW Motorrad protector jacket already has a preparation on the back, which houses the back ribbing of the neck support. Only superbike riders with a "hump" on the leather suit need to perform a small modification on their suit. To do so, a small opening between the hump and suit needs to be created so that the back section can be slid over.
