CALIFORNIA SUPERBIKE SCHOOL LEVEL 2
CALIFORNIA SUPERBIKE SCHOOL LEVEL 2
IN THE EYE OF EVERY RIDER
Do you want to go faster? Use your eyes wisely; not twist the throttle grip strongly.
Back was world’s best Superbike driving course by USA’s California Superbike School. With its best team of trainers from the Australia , it was here to hone keen Thai riders at the world-class Chang International Circuit in Buriram, where MotoGP and World Superbike races have been held. The force behind this spectacular opportunity was BMW Motorrad Thailand. The course picked up from where it had left off with Level 2 being added for already trained riders from the last time while Level 1 was also available for the beginners.
Level 2 course aims to develop your skills that help you overcome your limitations emphasizing the use of your eyes. The motorcycle used in the course was the latest model The New BMW S 1000 RR of 2020.
Before going ahead with this, let’s recap Level 1 rules we went through two years ago, as follows:
1. Use the racing suit only. The back guard is recommended.
2. Use the long boots covering up half of the shin.
3. Use the long leather gloves only.
4. Use the TIS360-2559 full helmet only.
CALIFORNIA SUPERBIKE SCHOOL (CSS)
40 years ago there was no such a course like this until Mr. Keith Code, the CSS founder and the pioneer riding coach for both pro and road riders, created it. Since then it has been tremendously received due to the scrupulous Step-by-Step teaching and learning techniques from the renowned “Twist of the Wrist” bible.
For the past 40 years the school has produced many riders in the “Superbike” program including some world class and national riders.
There are five topics in Level 2, all of which are the same as in the course CSS teaches the World Superbike and MotoGP riders. The riders joining the course were trained exactly in the same fashion, although as pros they can master it just like that.
Topic 1:
Topic 1:
Reference Points, instructing how to create one by yourself in all kinds of curves, to be able to understand it thoroughly and to use your eyes correctly. Also use all the skills from Level 1 with gear 3 and 4 positions only excluding braking.
Topic 2:
Topic 2:
Three Steps, which is the brake, the apex and the curve points to teach you how to overcome your own survival strategies by changing your perspective and using “reference points” in conjunction with this Topic. The point is finding the point out of the curve precisely; namely, the riders were trained how to see through the wide or narrow angles and practice using their eyes continuously while switching between only two gears with a very light brake.
Topic 3:
Topic 3:
Wide Angle, which is the eye training in the wide angle to improve the visibility of every reference point. This is something not taught anywhere but at CSS only and can enable you to corner better, faster and more precise. Gear 3 is practical due to more speed.
Topic 4:
Topic 4:
Wide Angle plus Reference Points, which is the solution to the unaware wrong use of eyes.
Topic 5:
Topic 5:
Braking, of which the correct use stabilizes and balances the motorcycle. Our rider students were trained to press and release the brake at the right moment.
The outstanding thing about this Level 2 is that it’s a one on one course – one trainer per student. The time management is superbly designed, starting with the theory session and then a 20-minutes coach-riding practice. Students received the feedback from their coach right away. Everybody was given a handbook to write down things to improve.
CSS’s detailed Step-by-Step course helps all the students use their eyes better. In fact, it’s more about psychology than science, in which Mr. Code, however, included the motorcycle design as “Science of Road Racing Motorcycles” – something pivotal the bikers should understand and can boost their confidence after Level 2 completion to prepare for Level 3, which is what everybody has been looking forward to. It’s the most special process for integrating the rider to the motorcycle by teaching tips of how to organize the body and techniques that will make the cornering even more effective.
Next Level for you…Level 3!!!
