CALIFORNIA SUPERBIKE SCHOOL
First thing first, let’s get to know California Superbike School, its courses and what you will get from training, shall we?
40 years ago, Mr Code, among a few of experts, pioneered the training courses for pro motorcyclists and general riders. His ‘step-by-step’ detailed curriculum was hailed and becoming more and more popular.
From then to present, the school has produced more than 150,000 well-trained riders including over 65 world-class and national racers.
The curriculum consists of four levels
Level 1
Level 1
The solutions to fix the riders’ flaws, especially how to control the accelerator and ride the curve so as to get rid of their fears and make riding more fun.
Level 2
Level 2
Five techniques of how to read the track and simultaneous practices. Learn how to solve a problem with proper eye training such as when the sped-up bike is in the curvature-forward velocity.
Level 3
Level 3
Five exercises of proper positioning on a bike in different situations like speeding off the curve.
Level 4
Level 4
One on one training with the coach and the custom-made course with the emphasis upon the trainees’ desire.
California Superbike School’s step-by-step course is proven perfectly effective judging from the trained bikers’ improved skills. Surprisingly, most of the flaws deal with psychological and scientific issues. For that matter, the course includes information about the motorcycle design derived from ‘Science of Road Racing Motorcycles’ to give the trainees the fundamental understanding which can boost their confidence.
LEVEL 1 AT CHANG INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT, BURIRAM 24 FEBRUARY 2018
The schedule showed how serious they were about the training since everybody was called to be ready at 6.45am and the registration was at 7am. That meant you couldn’t stay up and get wasted the night before, otherwise you wouldn’t pass fit for the day-long intensive multiple sessions.
After the registration, the trainees’ bikes were required to proceed through the check-up including tires by many technicians. Then they would be given the numbers, stickers and racing suits according to the divided color groups – White, Green, Yellow and Red. They must change the suit and move to the training room.
After Mr Markus Glaser, head of BMW Motorrad Thailand, gave the opening speech, Mr Dylan Code started off with the theoretical session focusing on ‘entering speed’ or how to use the accelerator.
The five sessions were, however, the mix of theory and practice:
1. Entering Speed
2. Turning Point
3. Quick Turn (Counter Steering)
4. 2 Steps reading the curve
5. Relaxation off the curve
The training was organized in three venues.
1. Fundamental theories in a lecture room
2. Practice in the circuit with one coach per 3-4 trainees
3. The clinic in the pit to fix each of the individual problems.
Not many people know that California Superbike School has produced its finest learning media for years taken just like a bike racing bible. The primary lesson can be acquired on YouTube or the book but to be trained closely by the experts in this occasion helped hone the riders’ basics and prepared them for the advanced riding with firm control of a speedy bike.
The trainees must pass all five sessions, one by one in the order. For example, you must learn how to control the speed and the accelerator before understanding how to speed into the curve properly.
To clear the curve, you must handle the accelerator correctly and understand the counter steering. Once you master it, you will be able to do the swift S-shaped curves or Chicane like a pro.
The five steps will improve the trainees’ riding basics and skills. The benefits are for every level of their riding from the novices to the amateur racers.
